In 1987, a great tradition was born in Norman. The Magarian family of six, got together with a few caring individuals and together they organized a free community Christmas Day Dinner to benefit those who were alone, or those who were unable to prepare a Christmas meal.

The dinner was held for the first two years at St. Michaels Church. Twenty people came to the first dinner in 1987 and twenty-four volunteers served them. Since that time the dinner has grown and was moved to Norman High School.

In 2017, the Magarian family lost their only son, Bob Dwight, unexpectedly, and in 2020 their oldest daughter, Paula Marie, died from brain cancer. The family decided in 2021 to honor their memory by establishing the “Paula M. and Bob D. Magarian Norman Christmas Day Community Dinner Foundation, Inc.”

Dinner

2023 marks the 37th anniversary of the Norman Christmas Day Community Dinner. The free dinner is open to everyone, and not only serves our community with a loving holiday meal, but brings together families of all ages, many of whom are renewed in spirit by their relationship with others, through acceptance and togetherness.

The Dinner is held at the Norman High School Commons Cafeteria (911 West Main Street, Norman, OK 73069) on Christmas Day from 11:00A to 2:00P. Santa is there to help distribute toys and gifts to the kids and adults.

Meals will be delivered to local residents who are shut-ins. Please contact Bob Magarian (405-364-3273) by December 21st to make arrangements for delivery.

Dona/ions

The Norman Christmas Day Community Dinner is supported by banks, businesses, and private donations. Without the continued support from the community, the dinner would not be possible. Because the dinner is so successful and is growing in the number of people it serves, financial contributions are critical for its continued success.

O/her Ways to Give

The Christmas dinner has other ways you can donate your time. Please consider how you can help with this year's dinner.

  • Can you make scarves, hats, gloves, or pillows?

  • Can you sponsor a toy drive at your school or office?

  • Will your company donate money or items for the adult gift bags?

Please let us know how you would like to help so we can coordinate everyone's efforts.

We happily accept toys, gloves and hats for children, teenagers and adults; socks and scarves, and adult grooming items.

All items must be new and unwrapped and can be taken to our official drop-off site:

Morningstar Storage
1606 24th Avenue SW (across from Atwood's)
Norman, OK 73069

You may also deliver your items to Norman High School on Christmas Eve from 9:00A-12:00 noon – 911 West Main Street, Norman, OK 73069. Please enter through the door (at the loading dock) located on the east side of the building off of Pickard Street.
